Oklahoma: Green Country Winnies

May 14, 2019

In March many of us attended the Okiebagos Spring outing at Little Turtle RV Park in Eufaula, OK. It was a great trip with many things to do and see. On Thursday, March 21 Darrell Carver had a roundtable discussion “Navigating the Oklahoma WIT Facebook Page”. He shared a lot of good information and helped many of us to be able to use our page. We ate at several restaurants around, including Dobber’s Roadhouse in Longtown, June’s in Checotah & Fajita Rita’s in Ft. Gibson. There were several tours available: Honey Springs Battleground, Ft. Gibson Military Park, Cherokee National Prison Museum and Cherokee Heritage Center. Lots of history. Quite interesting tours.
We had a potluck on Saturday evening, then headed to the Plumb Theater to enjoy the Mullins. They did a Marty Robbins tribute. They were both very good. I would call him a Marty Robbins impersonator. That trip was enjoyed by all. Most evenings we played cards and games and worked on puzzles. The weather was a little wet at times, but a good time was had by all.
We had biscuits and gravy Sunday morning supplied by Okiebagos and Debbie Adamson gave the devotional before we headed on down the road.
April brought the Sooner Schooners outing at Wanderlust Crossing RV Park in Weatherford, OK. We had 11 coaches and Larry & Thelma and Marion & Pat Towns came by to visit.
Tuesday evening our hosts: H. B. & Gayle and Howard & Ann prepared and served a wonderful fried chicken dinner with cookies and pies for dessert. After dinner, lots of card playing.
Wednesday Darrell gave another teaching lesson on Facebook. In the afternoon we visited the Route 66 Museum in Clinton, then had dinner at the White Dog Hill Restaurant. The building was built in the 1920’s. Well worth the visit. The food was great and the building was incredible to see. We also visited the Stafford Air & Space Museum and had dinner at Lucille’s Roadhouse in Weatherford on Thursday.
Friday, we had a continental breakfast followed by business meetings and discussion of the State Rally.
May brought our State Rally at Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center, Shawnee, OK. I believe we had 30 plus coaches attending. We also had visitors; Alice Combs and Reatha Hill. It was great to see them. We had tours to the National Weather Service, Shawnee Outdoors (gun range), Mabee-Gerre Meseum and Santa Fe Depot and Grey Snow Eagle Sanctuary. Several seminars. Lots of games and we even had a masseuse. She was great! We were entertained by the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players”. They are always a hoot. There was the Tea Party and the Ice Cream Social. And Les Gilliam entertained on Saturday night. Quite the storyteller and singer. Lots of good food, fun and fellowship. Got to visit with old friends and meet some new friends.
Continental breakfast and business meetings and Devotional Sunday morning before everyone hit the road again.
June Green Country Winnie outing will be at Mountain View RV Park, Mountain View, AR, June 13-16. Please call and make your reservations. There is a pre-outing excursion at Dam-Quarry Park, Cotter, AR, June 6-10, if you would like to join us, please contact Ken or Donna Zwiegel. There are trout fishing trips available or just come and relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Hope to see everyone in June!
Safe travels, wherever the road takes you.
