Prairie Winnies Campout was held October 4-7, 2018 at Spring Lake RV Resort in Halstead, Kansas. Nine coaches took part in a fun, cool, rainy weekend. Coaches came in from as far away as Oberlin, Plains & Shawnee.
We started the fun with Taste of Newton on Thursday night. Three blocks of Main Street are shut down, picnic tables are put on the sidewalk and seventy vendors put out their food specialty. We started grazing at the north end with thai kabobs, on to grilled pork chops, chicken & noodles, new years cookies, bierocks, lots of pie choices …you just had to be there to believe it!
Friday started with breakfast at the club house. The guys went to Striker in Burrton to see heavy bail equipment manufactured. The girls were led on a mystery day to Buhler Ks, Adrians A-Z, and other small town shops. Everyone met at Mustard Seed Deli for lunch and pie later at Lavon’s Bakery. We stopped by Yoder Concrete in Burrton for a tour of the making of yard ornaments. After a brief rest and working up an appetite, we went into Newton to eat a German buffet at the Bread Basket. It is always delicious!
Saturday brought much cooler temps and rain as we journeyed to Whitewater to partake in a small town parade and enjoyed shopping the vendor booths selling jam ie: raspberry cheesecake, homemade breads, rolls, honey, dilled green beans, etc. The evening meal was at the Club House followed by live entertainment – and rain…
Sunday morning brought more rain and a wonderful church service led by our own Neil Haerich. A short business meeting followed.
