WIT Club Central Area Reps – September 2018 News Article
Wow we can’t believe it is September already! We have had so much fun traveling, seeing new places and meeting all the wonderful WIT Club members, time has just flown by. Here is a brief overview of where we’ve been…
We got the opportunity to camp with our own local chapter the We-Wan-To-Go’s at the fairgrounds in Grundy Center. It was one of the hottest campouts I think we have ever had! We did enjoy several interesting tours; Matchstick Marvels in Gladbrook, IA is amazing if you are ever that way. We also enjoyed good food, games, and lots of laughs.
Next, we traveled to Crescent City, Illinois for the IL State Rally at the Iroquois Fairgrounds. It was fun to see some familiar faces since we had recently camped with a couple of the IL local chapters. We enjoyed watching the movie The Long, Long Trailer with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez at the restored Watseka Theater, so funny! We also enjoyed music by Bill Harper Saturday night, many singing along to all the songs. While some of the weekend had wet weather the fun and fellowship were great!
On to Wisconsin and a campout at Russell Memorial Park. This is a beautiful park on a lake, with lots of tall pine trees. We enjoyed making many new friends on this campout, an Amish farm tour, and campfires.
We moved from Wisconsin to Forest City, Iowa to start preparations for 2018 GNR. The month of July went by so fast. It is fun to watch the rally grounds come to life. We loved seeing many of you at GNR this year celebrating Winnebago’s 60th birthday.
A HUGE “Thank You” to all our GNR volunteers! We couldn’t put on this rally without your help and commitment. We sincerely appreciate all your hard work and dedication to making this year’s GNR a success!
Mark your calendars for July 22 – 27, 2019. We hope to see all of you, and many more in 2019 for the 50th GNR.
After GNR we made a short drive to Fiscus Grove campground in Liscombe, IA. This was a relaxed campout with the Busy Bee’s local chapter. We really enjoyed the Iowa sweet corn! We had a tour of the local jail and enjoyed a “polka” church service.
On to Indiana for the Indiana State Rally at Pla-Mor Campground in Bremen, IN. We went to Elkhart to tour the Furrion facility which is an Innovation Center and Institute of technology. The most talked about item made by Furrion was the amazing toilet. You pushed buttons for heated seat or flushing or spray water to the front or back. Then we went next door to the Motorhome/RV Hall of Fame Museum, it was very interesting and fun to see the progression of RVs throughout the years. Saturday night we enjoyed a homecooked Amish dinner, the food was very good, especially the peach pie. We can definitely confirm no one went away hungry!
From here we journeyed back to Wisconsin for a campout at Pine Harbor Campground in Chippewa Falls, WI. This was the club’s first “no host” campout, and it was determined a success! We toured Leinenkugel’s brewery and enjoyed sampling the different brews. The weather was perfect, sunny & warm during the day, cool enough to enjoy campfires in the evenings.
Our next stop was at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, MN for the Minnesota State Rally. We had beautiful fall weather, sunny and cool. There were many tournaments such as blackjack, bean bag baseball, pegs and jokers to name a few. Lots of good fun competition was enjoyed. The theme was the Roaring 20’s and many of the club members dressed the part on Saturday night. It was a wonderful weekend!
In just the past few days, its clear that the days are getting shorter, leaves are starting to turn, football season…fall has arrived. We wish you all safe travels wherever you may be traveling to.
