Maumee Valley Winnies 20th Birthday Celebration
Maumee Valley Winnies from Northwest Ohio celebrated their 20th birthday with a camp-out at Maumee Bay State Park on September 7 – 9, 2018. 23 rigs were in attendance and 4 members came for dinner on Saturday. 10 of the 28 original founding members were in attendance; Lance and Jeanne Halsey, Fay Martin, George and Barbara McCormick, Clyde Michael, Don and Marlene Tornow, and Paul and Shirley Tornow.
Friday began with a happy hour, then a campfire and hotdogs. On Saturday, we had a pancake and sausage breakfast prepared by our campground hosts, happy hour again in the afternoon, followed by the highlight of the weekend – a perch fish fry and potluck dinner. Our hosts, Paul and Shirley Tornow, Clyde and Janet Michael, Dave and Deb Brenner, Dale and Sharon Viers, did a fabulous job preparing for and dealing with the weather which was windy, with off and on rain from remnants of Hurricane Gordon that came up through the Ohio valley. Sunday we concluded with a continental breakfast.
At the fish fry, we presented George and Barbara McCormick, two of the founding members, with a well deserved WIT Club Honorary Certificate and membership. We also thanked Paul and Shirley Tornow, founding members, who had hosted our birthday fish fry for most of the 20 years of our Maumee Valley Winnies existence.
We all had an enjoyable weekend reminiscing of old times and the first 20 years of our club. Our 44-rig club intends to make the next 20 years as successful as the first. A special thank you goes to all our founding members.
