On January 1-3, 2018, Massachusetts Wit Club hosted the Greater New England Rally at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in East Falmouth, MA. The MA clubs provided a wonderful rally for everyone who attended. Connecticut had 9 coaches in attendance plus two former club members now living in Georgia. It was really great they came North to join us. It was a wonderful time, and they did a great job with the rally. Friday evening saw entertainment with an open mike which was wonderful, and everyone had a great time. People who took the trip to Martha’s Vineyard all reported having a grand time. The Ice Cream Social was fantastic as always with Sandy Bates and pals doing their usual fantastic job. The band and singers on Saturday night were really talented, and the weekend ended too quickly. CT had a $100.00 bill cash raffle in a puzzle box that raised $220.00 which was donated to the Newington Veterans Home new assisted living project to help furnish the individual rooms. Many thanks to Ken and Wendy Bly for spearheading the raffle and to all the club members who donated baskets for the Friendship Walk. It was really fun this year to note all the men who participated in the Walk. Jim Pierce from MA WIT did a great job playing and singing at the rally and our own Ray Hofbauer acted as chaplain for the event and sang for the open mike event Friday evening, and he was wonderful. Allan Dean assisted with the pancake breakfast, and we thank him for that. At our annual meeting following the conclusion of the rally on Sunday morning, the new slate of officers were sworn in by Stewart and Tammy Smith, our eastern Winnebago reps.
The CT Winnies had an extra-curricular event the weekend of June 15-17 at West Thompson Lake Army Corps of Engineers Campgound in Thompson, CT with 6 coaches in attendance hosted by Steve Tonken. It was a very relaxing weekend and we had wonderful campfires and good conversation.
