Greetings from northwest Ohio! Wherever you are, we hope that you are having a fun-filled camping season. We have certainly been “on a roll” since our last check-in, here’s a bit about what we’ve been up to, with many of you since then.
Next up, we traveled east to join the Delmarva & Chesapeake Winnies for Parkview RV’s 50th Anniversary and 25th Annual Buddy Rally at the Delaware State Fairgrounds. This was a fun weekend celebration with seminars, craft classes, cornhole and more. We were all entertained by a comical ventriloquist one evening and the sounds of “The Fabulous Hubcaps” the next. By the end of the weekend, one couple had purchased a new Forza 34T…. which was very exciting!
Then it was on to North Carolina for the State Rally “NC WIT Fair” at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds where 60 RVs gathered to join in the fun. There were activities galore, fair games, a friendship walk, beanbag baseball tournament, seminars and an ice cream social just to name a few. There were lots of vendors for shopping. The music provided by Tom La Rock and Kenny Evans was fantastic. During the festivities, the Western Winnie Tarwheels celebrated their 40th birthday…. Congratulations!

In early May, things warmed up a bit with the Georgia State Rally’s “Tropical Luau” at Coastal Georgia RV Resort in Brunswick. During pre-rally, many folks ventured out to explore the beauty of St. Simons and Jekyll Islands. Things kicked off with a “welcome cookout”, the pet parade, jewelry making and ladder ball were fun afternoon activities. As for entertainment, we laughed until we cried listening to the hysterical storytelling of “Lynnie Pearl” and their live auction was a kick! The band “Magic” played lots of great music and many folks danced the night away.

Following that, we met up with MILWIT members from all over the country at Lake Guntersville State Park in Guntersville, Alabama for the MILWIT Eastern Area Rally. Old friends and new enjoyed the beautiful lakeside setting in the hills. The camaraderie among these retired military members runs deep. We all have that common thread of experience and understanding. While there, several folks ventured out to visit places of interest in the area like the Ave Maria Grotto, Huntsville Space Center, and a Civil War Museum. There was a very informative RV Care and Maintenance seminar provided by the RVIA “RV Service Technician of the Year”! That was pretty awesome!
Then we traveled a few hundred miles north and joined the Keystone Winnies campout at Lake Glory in Catawissa, PA. The weather was a little damp, but spirits were high. Highlights of this outing were crafts, cozy campfires, great food, jokes, and lots of laughter. One evening we were all entertained by someone’s new “flame genie” firepit contraption; it was a riot! The group also enjoyed a fun field trip to nearby Knobles amusement park.
The WIT Club party kept going as we continued north to the green mountains of Vermont, to meet up with the Lake Champlain WIT campout in Essex Junction. Everyone took in the local Memorial Day parade to honor and remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country. God Bless America! The weekend continued with live music and games, along with lots of great food, and good company. One evening there was a fun “yankee gift swap” that turned out to be quite humorous; this group has some true comedians.
As we made our way south a bit, we stopped off to visit with the Granite State Winnies at Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA. This was their “tailgating campout” in route to the New England Rally. It was a relaxing time of visiting and enjoying evening campfires. One day the group explored nearby Patriot Place and had a dinner outing to Longhorn Steakhouse.
After that, we went to the land of the world’s best clam chowder, where they have rotary roads and “wicked” is a good thing. You guessed it, “Summertime on Cape Cod” was the location and theme for this year’s New England Rally, where 64 RVs joined in the fun. The event kicked off with a nice ferry ride and pre-rally tour of Martha’s Vineyard (MV). The island is beautiful, with interesting history and stories of the rich and famous. Our MV tour guide was a hoot and quite the storyteller. One evening there was an entertaining “open mic night” which included some terrific musical talent and comedy. Another evening everyone was groovin’ to the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s provided by the Backtrack Band. Additional festivities included a lovely wine & cheese social, bean Bag Baseball tournament, and a friendship walk with lots of goodies. Several rally goers stayed an extra day to explore “The Cape”.

Our next stop was the Pennsylvania (State Rally) Roundup in Centre Hall, where RVs gathered from nine different states. Many folks rolled in early to enjoy a pre-rally tour of “The Arboretum” and famous “Berkey Creamery” at Penn State. The weather was perfect, flowers and foliage at the arboretum were gorgeous and the ice cream at the creamery was delicious. Back at the “WIT Ranch” everyone was lookin’ good in their cowboy boots and hats. The Golf Cart Rodeo was both entertaining and hilarious, especially since the drivers were blindfolded. It might have been a good idea to have marriage counselors at the end of the obstacle course …. LOL! One evening “The Steel Creek Band” rocked the house with country tunes and there was a whole lotta dancin’ goin’ on.

The Grand National Rally (GNR) is right around the corner. If you’re registered, don’t forget to volunteer. If you’re not registered, there’s still time to sign-up to come out and join in the fun. The GNR entertainment lineup this year is fantastic, there are some new activities to experience (Ladies Day Out, Ladies Day In, and a Beer 101 Class), along with lots of interesting/educational seminars. GNR is always a blast!
Our hope is that your summer RV adventures are going great, we look forward to hearing about the places you’ve been and memories you’ve made. Safe travels everyone…
Life’s a gift…Enjoy the journey
