California: Hi-Desert Rig Runners

December‒There were 10 coaches who attended the outing: Greg and Karla Bechner, Lorraine Brockway, Randy and Karen Childs, Raven Orin and Clare Gilbertson, Bob and Paula Gorges, Darrell and Barbara Gury, Jerry and Connie Just, Joe and Sherrie Martineau, Augie and Judi Sansone, and John and Linda Walsh.

Tuesday we all arrived, set up camp, and headed to the clubhouse to have a fun afternoon— turning the clubhouse into a room filled with Christmas decorations, including plenty of toys for Child Help and a wall filled with white elephant gifts! We were all treated to a tasty dinner. After dinner, we all played a couple of spirited games of Left, Right, Center! Sherrie and Augie were the big winners!

Wednesday the Executive Board put on a breakfast. It must have hit the spot with everyone because the only thing left was to wash the dishes! After breakfast, some of us headed to Merv Griffin’s Child where Sheri Bough from Child Help gave us a tour of the campus. We were all surprised how these young people kept their rooms clean and most, if not all, attended church on a regular basis. I think the HDRR should be proud we support this group. Back in camp, Paula put on a craft of "pine cone elves" which all the girls really enjoyed! Would like to thank Nancy Walczynski for supplying most of the pine cones.

The General Meeting touched on many issues concerning the HDRR. After the meeting, Randy gave us the ins and outs of buying a tire for your RV. For dinner, we were treated to a tasty Traditional Turkey dinner with all the fixings. For dessert, we had the goodie table to satisfy our sweet tooth! Thanks to all for a goodie table that was filled with our favorite tasty treats!

Now it was time to open our stockings. Thanks to Margie and Flo, we all had the nicest stocking that a person could ask for! We all enjoyed opening our stockings—it’s always been a fun thing with this group.

Thursday the HDRR on put on a tasty potluck breakfast. Some of the day was spent visiting in the clubhouse. Games were on the schedule for the afternoon and Sherrie introduced us to Charades—a fun game that we all enjoyed. The girls won 20-18, but the boys want a rematch!

For dinner, we were treated to heavy hors d’ oeuvres. The 2018 installation of officers were announced with Karla Bechner—President, Karen Childs—Vice President, Paula Gorges— Secretary, and Lorraine Brockway—Treasurer.

Bob and Karla led us in a fast paced game of white elephant bingo. We all had a great time! The question is will we see the "monkeys" next year.

Friday morning we said our goodbyes. Merry Christmas to all! Be healthy!
