October-The San Juanderer’s October outing to Leavenworth, WA started on Thursday, Sept. 28 with nine coaches arriving at Icicle River RV Park.
The first evening we had our customary happy hour on the edge of the beautiful Icicle River. The nearby mountains were covered with trees whose leaves were displaying their glorious fall colors.
On Friday, members explored the area, shopped the famous Leavenworth stores or headed to the Leavenworth Golf Course. A traditional Octoberfest dinner of Brats and Sauerkraut were furnished by the hosts on Friday evening; supplemented by salads and desserts that members provided.
Saturday was left open for exploring and participating in the Oktoberfest festivities in town. People attend every year and wear traditional German costumes. The town is packed in the evenings and much beer is consumed while bands play in several different venues where people dance and polka. Bill Evens entered the challenge of holding a full stein of beer out in front of him for as long as he could. He placed in the top five. Most of the San Juanderers took advantage of a shuttle that was provided from the campground to downtown.
Sunday was sleep in and/or explore until 4pm. We held an early happy hour along with two rousing rounds of beanbag baseball. A delicious potluck of hot dishes, salads and desserts ended the evening.
On Monday it was time to head home but not before a breakfast provided by the hosts, followed by some last-minute visiting. A good time was had by all.
