March- Winter was holding on as the Pelican Winnies gathered at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston, Louisiana. The dogwoods were just starting to bloom and the weekend weather was a little nippy for this time of year in Louisiana but that did not stop us from enjoying our weekend in this beautiful campground. The Gator Winnies chapter did a fantastic job hosting this meeting for the 18 coaches that were present.
Most members arrived early to enjoy the fun and fellowship that always follows wherever the Pelicans gather. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, everyone was on their own to find their special restaurants and entertainment, and find them they did! On Thursday, the outing officially began with the group going to Landry’s Seafood Restaurant for dinner. And as always, no one left the restaurant hungry. Shrimp, fried fish, gumbo, fried chicken, and all the salads and desserts that you wanted to sample, were readily available.
On Friday, everyone enjoyed a fun day of visiting, playing card games, and finding out what everyone had done since our last meeting in November. That evening, pot luck was held with each coach providing a favorite dish. Again, a large variety of foods was found in abundance and enjoyed by all.
Saturday, the Gator chapter served pancakes and sausage for breakfast, delicious as usual! After breakfast, the business meeting was held which included a detailed update on plans for the Louisiana Rally coming up October 25 – 28, 2018 in Rayne, LA. Several new activities are in the works for the rally and our treasurer was excited to announce that he had already received the first registration for the rally. After the meeting, members were on their own, fishing, shopping, visiting and playing games. The Gator Winnies put on a fantastic spread of roast beef, brisket, pasta salad, fruit salad and more including a variety of desserts for the evening meal, all of it wonderfully delicious! After eating, everyone played Card Bingo, some being luckier than others. After enjoying all the scrumptious food and more good fellowship, goodbyes were said in anticipation of early Sunday morning departures by many.
A fun time including good food, fun games and great fellowship was had by all and plans for the next gathering have already been made.
