Washington: Inland Empire Explorers

August 29, 2017

June−Twenty-four members of Inland Empire Explorers traveled to Pendleton, OR June 13-16 for their outing at the KOA Campground just south of Pendleton. The rally opened on Tuesday (June 13) with a heavy hors d'oeuvres social hour and a time of getting to know the newest members. Members in attendance were: Greg and Jill Allen, Eric and Patty Carlson, Joe and Sharon Dolan, Marv and Carol Franz, Nancy Gilbert, Rick and Cindy Grabenstein (new members), Don and Dee Gumenberg, Marty Johnson, Larry Leingang (new member), Ron Lindquist (newest member), Cliff and LaDean Stice, Don and Carolyn VanLeuven, Ron and Norma Woodward, and Daryl and Jan Ziemer.

Wednesday morning started with a golf outing for some and a tour of the Pendleton Woolen Mills for others. We lunched a various establishment in the local area and gathered in the evening for a potluck dinner and some domino and card games in the campground clubhouse.

Thursday featured a tour of the Pendleton "Underground," a complex series of caves and rooms where people met, drank, and gambled during the times of prohibition. We also toured a former brothel ran by "Miss Stella" and "her girls." The entire group went to dinner at The Saddle restaurant on Thursday night and the hardcore pinochle players met in the game room for a few hands of cards after dinner.

The campground staff served an outstanding breakfast on Friday morning before everyone said their farewells.
